Djanbung Gardens

1 January 1970

Saturday 10 August | 10am-5pm

Want to learn how to get back to basics, do more using your hands and enjoy seeing how to live in a more natural way?  Then come and be a part of the inaugural Forgotten Arts Fair at Djanbung Gardens.

Escape from the world of mass production, over-consumption and waste, to reconnect with the beauty and satisfaction of living in a world that’s closer to nature and increasingly made by hand.

At the Forgotten Arts Fair you can try your hand at weaving, basketry, fibre and floral crafts, mask-making, macrame, whittling,, make a beautiful flower crown or posy to wear or try out using an old treadle machine or manual potter’s wheel. See artisans at work blacksmithing, bone and wood carving, leather work, weavers and a myriad of other crafts. We’ll be celebrating and sharing traditional skills and survival crafts, holding talks and hosting workshops and demonstrations.

At the fair, you can explore the ‘Market-in-the-Meadow’ with stalls and demonstrations on a diverse range of traditional arts, crafts and creations made from nature. The Fibre-to-Fabric area will demonstrate spinning, weaving, lacemaking and other fibre crats. Wander over to the LandsEnd Forge to see the Northern Rivers Knifemakers and Blacksmiths group at work and visit the Viking encampment in the Celtic grove to experience crafts and skills of a by-gone era.

At ‘The Hub’ in and around the main building, the café features delicious local food and refreshments with outdoor seating by the main stage to enjoy live folk music and entertainment. The earth-brick hexagon in the main building will host talks and presentations.

Djanbung Gardens is a nature lover’s paradise in the Northern Rivers region with generous grounds, gardens and permaculture college. The gardens receive visitors and students from around the world and host numerous community events including the Nimbin Repair Cafe.

Entry on the day is by Gold Coin donation (or if you can afford it $5 or $10 for a family would be appreciated).
